It is safe to say, based on the number of persons who turned out, that the Jamaica Cancer Society’s Chocolate and Champagne Tea Party and Art Affair at Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel last Thursday (August 27) was well supported.
Elegantly dressed for the beautiful summer-afternoon event sponsored by Jamaica National, Select Brands, JetBlue Airways, Supreme Ventures, BMW, and Ferrero, guests were greeted by the cheerful faces of representatives from the Jamaica Cancer Society and great art from local talents.
Master of ceremonies Patria-Kaye Aarons kept the programme running smoothly with guests being thoroughly entertained with her vibrant persona that emanated throughout the room.
In her speedy opening remarks, President of the Jamaica Cancer Society Yulit Gordon, thanked the relevant persons for their continued support, and listed the organisations upcoming fundraisers such as the annual Keeping Abreast luncheon and 5k walk, of which the proceeds will go towards cancer screening and education.
In addition, Gordon re-emphasised the importance of early testing – stressing that it might save a life and expenses.
Formalities out the way, it was time for champagne and fun. Guests were entertained by Harold Davis and friends, while enjoying a buffet of callaloo quiche, assorted teas, sandwiches – tuna, cucumber, egg – and toe-curling desserts.
A Dutch auction of fine art pieces by Peter Pearl, Betty Glanville, Sonya Richards, and Myrth Hall-Butler followed. But the highly anticipated event was the grand-prize draw. The consolation prize went to Janice Lee who walked away with a bottle of G.H. MUMM champagne. But the grand prize winner was Nakeeta Nembhard, who won a trip to any city of her choice courtesy of JetBlue.

young and inexperienced quarterback, Tyrod Taylor. Taylor was effective at running the ball and showed glimpses of prowess when in the pocket. Yet, his inability to put a high number of points on the board against a Tennessee team that has routinely allowed touchdowns this season will no doubt have a number of Bills fans concerned.”You’ll Think of Me” Keith Urban. This is another very popular song in its own right. Originally country but had such success with broken hearts across America that it ended up crossing over to the pop charts as well. While this song is slower than any others on this list it definitely qualifies as a great breakup song. Since the NFL is projecting revenue of more than $12 billion this year, that number is certainly in reach, as television deals have massively increased, local team revenues have jumped, and sports betting is on the precipice within the next three years or so. To put that into perspective, the MLB brings in about $9 billion annually, and the NBA comes in at $5 billion followed by the NHL’s $3.6 billion.
